What has changed?
Beginning January 2019, Department of Home Affairs will centralize the processing of all visa applications to Pretoria, South Africa. Currently, individuals applying for a South African visa/renewal can submit their application at their local South African mission or VFS office for in-country processing.
The reasons for this change are twofold. It addresses the immediate problem of the different levels of adjudication across all the missions and it is a cost-effective approach for the government, allowing some staff members to be redeployed in their home country.
Who is affected?
Beginning in January 2019, clients who will/have an employee who needs to apply or renew a South African visa.
What to expect
- This change will significantly increase visa processing times.
- Passports will no longer be required to be submitted for the entire application process.

- Inform visa holders who will be applying or renewing their visa of these changes.
