What has changed
German Alien Offices, in various jurisdictions, are becoming increasingly strict regarding the legal requirements of health insurance coverage. More and more assignees with international health care coverage are being told that their insurance coverage is not adequate to support their work and residence permit applications. This is due to not all international health insurance complying with local health insurance regulations.
Who is affected?
- All assignees on international assignments with international health care coverage
- All clients that send their employees to Germany
- Clients should ensure their international health insurance complies with the national terms of health insurance coverage. If the health insurance provider does not comply, the assignee may not be allowed to apply for a work and residence permit. The assignee also may not begin working.
