Colombia – Mercosur Visa No Longer Open to Chilean Nationals

What has changed

Effective immediately, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will no longer grant migrant visas to Chilean nationals on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement, although no changes to the immigration regulations have been made to this effect.

Who is affected

Clients who have hired or intend to employ Chilean nationals in Colombia.

What to expect

Chilean nationals who hold a valid Mercosur migrant visa can remain in Colombia while their current immigration status is valid. If Chilean nationals wish to remain in Colombia beyond this, they should apply for the appropriate visa before their visa expires.

This is understood to be a reciprocal measure, as Chile does not allow Colombian nationals to obtain residence on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement.
