China – Visa Exemption for Taiwanese Travelers to China (UPDATE)

What has changed

Further to our alert from June 30, 2015, the mainland travel permit (Tai Bao Zheng) will be replaced by the new Electronic-Taobao Card for Taiwan residents in Shanghai, beginning September 21, 2015.

  • Taiwanese citizens in Shanghai

The E-Taiboa Card will be valid for five (5) years and the processing time will not change from the current processing time of the mainland travel permit. Valid mainland travel permits may continue to be used and the E-Taibao card can be applied for at the time of the next renewal.

Bureau branches throughout Shanghai will not accept applications from September 17th through September 21st. If applicants wish to apply, request a replacement, or update personal information during that time, they may only do so at the Shanghai Entry and Exit Bureau located at No.1500 Minsheng Road.
