Australia – Protected Industrial Action May Cause Delays for Travelers and Visa Applicants

What has changed

Following our Alert on June 18, 2015, we have been advised that employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), including the Australian Border Force, who are members of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) will undertake protected industrial action (PIA) on Monday August 3, 2015 across Australia.

What to expect

  • International travelers and all visa applicants may potentially face delays

Passengers travelling internationally on Monday may experience delays at airports, while visa and citizenship services may also be affected.  Passengers booked on international flights departing on Monday are advised to arrive early in accordance with their airline’s guidelines and after check-in, promptly proceed straight to immigration and customs clearance.
